No, you are really reading this correctly. I went to Tysons today and kept looking behind me. Checking myself out in windows and mirrors really worked on my behalf today.

FAIRFAX, Va. - Authorities say a woman has been slashed in a Fairfax County shopping mall in what could be the latest in a string of similar incidents.

Fairfax County police spokesperson Lucy Caldwell says an 18-year-old woman was in Forever XXI, a trendy clothing store, at Fair Oaks Mall when she was cut at about 5:30 p.m. Monday. Caldwell says the woman heard someone behind her drop clothes or a package. The woman then felt a sharp pain and realized she had been cut. Caldwell says the woman was cut on the buttocks through her denim shorts with a box cutter or razor.

Detectives say the attack may be linked to four others that have occurred in Fairfax County retail stores since February.

Most recently, a woman was cut while shopping at a Marshalls at Greenbriar Shopping Center on June 20. The other attacks took place Feb. 14 at the Fair Oaks Mall in the corridor near Champps Americana restaurant; May 16 at the same mall, inside the Ann Taylor clothing store and June 18 at Tysons Corner Center inside the H&M clothing store.

In each attack, police say the suspect distracts his victim before cutting them.

The victims have all been in their late teens or early 20s, and have survived the attacks.

Police think the slasher is a heavy set Hispanic man in his late 20s, roughly 5 feet 6 inches tall. He wore white shorts and a short-sleeved shirt on the July 25 attack.
