Need

I need maternity clothes. I'm busting out of my tops. My pants zip up but it's so uncomfortable and combined with fitted shirts gives me a muffin top.

Here are some pix from the weekend.
Oli had her first mani and she LOVES it. Such a girly girl!
O and CONGRATULATIONS to SB ON YOUR ENGAGEMENT!!!!

Gone Girl

I started and finished Gone Girl today.  It started off the way I expected it to, then revved up in the 2nd part.  I heard many people say they hated the ending, but despite that, I actually was ok with its conclusion.  For those who hated it, how else would you have ended such a story?  It is definitely worth the read.  I heard Reese Witherspoon is tied to the movie deal.  She doesn't do it for me to play this role though.  Needs someone with more edge.  More WTF, PSYCHO-ness.

I need another book.

I am 15 weeks this week.  I am starting to feel a little better, a little like my old self.  I still get pukey and gag a bit, but it's not as bad as before.  And I think the spit production is weaning.  Thank the good Lord.  Food is tasting marginally better but it's definitely not the same.  Like Mr. Ho said, I can't wait till I get to the "let's eat everything" phase.  This phase sucks.

Olivia is just the cutest ball of cute these days.  Yes, defiant and will throw a pretty good tantrum.  But the things that come out of her mouth just crack me up or make me smile endlessly.  She'll randomly tell me she misses me, which I think she thinks means love, and give me big hugs.  Or come up to me and say, "best friends!" and hug.  When I take her for a potty break, she'll say, "thanks for telling me."  If she likes the food we serve her, she'll say, "umma/appa, good cook!  yummy tummy!"  She'll hug her dolls or stuffed animals and say, "[name of doll] love me!"  When she knocks over her legos or ruins whatever she's building, she'll say, "try again!" with no hint of frustration.  She's just a happy, loving, positive, bundle of everything I could ever ask for.  This age is just so fun.

To bed I go.

So

So much puking.
So much spit in my mouth!

:(

12 Weeks

I had my screen for Downs and Trisomy at the Genetics and IVF Institute this past week.  We had a lengthy sonogram and watched the little peanut chill on it's back and move it's limbs.  Got my results yesterday.  My risk factor is 1/10,000 so that's fantastic news!

I also had a 12 week appointment with the OBGYN and listened to its heart beat.  I enjoy sonograms and the heart monitoring because it makes it more real.  On the day-to-day, I just feel tired and ill.  I don't have a belly and I can't feel any movements, so it's almost surreal that I'm going to have another baby.  I look at Olivia and remember her as an infant and I'm so excited to do that over again.  I can't wait to hold a little one.  Here's hoping that since it's the second time around, I know what I'm doing.

Definitely, I'm more scared than last time.  While pregnant with Olivia, it was very dreamy and all, "this is going to be so perfect!"  But I know what it's really like and how much worse it could be.  Looking back, Olivia was a pretty easy baby.  No colic, no major illnesses.  She hit all her milestones on time.  The only hard part was the non-breastfeeding but even pumping became second nature.  I almost think that pumping was easier in comparison to constantly whipping out the boob.  At least with pumping, it's a scheduled feeding?  I don't know.

I'm scared to death of another c-section too.  If it's scheduled, I'm hoping my body won't be as wiped out since I won't be laboring for 20 hours like last time.  But at the same time, I hate all the drugs they give you.  It IS major surgery.  And it definitely impacts how quickly your milk comes in.  PLUS the recovery is so much harder than a vaginal birth.  The doctors say I can consider a VBAC (vaginal birth after c-section), but it really is just physics with me.  Olivia didn't fit.  What are the chances of this one "fiitting."  Olivia was even early so if she was full term, she would've been even bigger than she was.  The doctor asked me what size shoe I wore and said there was a midwives rumor that your foot size is correlated to your pelvic opening so NO WONDER my baby didn't fit.  I have ELFIN feet!

So I'm totally rambling because I am totes nervous.

Other Gross Things

That are normally fine.

Warm water

Bean 2

I'm so happy to announce that we are expecting baby #2!  I've been pretty MIA on the blog because I haven't really had anything else to say other than I've been battling some nasty morning sickness.  Well, more like night sickness.  I start off the day ok and then I just get progressively worse throughout and then puke at night.  It's a lot of fun.

No, it's not.  And it's enough for me to think that I am so done after this one.  But I guess, never say never...  Actually, if I get baby fever after baby #2, someone slap me and remind of how bad everything smells - especially the refrigerator.  And how I get excess spit build-up and have to constantly spit.  Or how I think I'm craving something, eat it, and then puke my brains out.  Or how a shower completely drains me and then I have to puke some more.   Or how Olivia's diapers make me gag, and they never used to.

Olive has been pretty cute about everything.  Everytime I race to the bathroom, she says, "Umma's baby hurt."  And Mr. Ho has been amazing.  Cleaning, cooking, occupying Olivia while I lay useless on the couch.

12 weeks today.  Praying for a healthy pregnancy.  And hoping for this nausea to stop soon.

Yay!  Baby Ho 2!

One year ago

Last year on this day, Mr. Ho and I went to Georgetown Cupcakes in Bethesda to fulfill my cupcake craving. We bought extras and brought some to the Wiltshires. Mr. Ho went to go play his flag football game and I was waiting for him to come home with some Baja Fresh, which was my first mexican craving of the pregnancy.

**A little TMI**

All day, I felt a little trickle down there and just assumed it was a part of "normal pregnancy" as my OBGYN kept referring to all my symptoms. I felt the need to pee and couldn't really control my bladder but I was 37 weeks so I figured I was just losing a bit of bladder control. But by night time, I felt sort of suspicious so I took a sniff at my underwear. It smelled like bleach! I googled "when your water breaks" and read that bleach-smelling liquid could be a sign that your bag of waters had broken! So I called my doctor and his on-call partner told me to just go to the hospital to get a test, just in case. I phone-bombed Mr. Ho. He did not pick up. In the mean time, I began to add the finishing touches to my hospital bag and mentally prepared myself, but at the same time, did not get my hopes up in case this was just a false alarm.

Mr. Ho finally called back in a complete panic! I told him what was going on and he sped home. He was quite the flustered one, to say the least. I told him he HAD to take a shower in case this was the real deal. FInally, we were on our way. I remember walking into the hospital hand-in-hand saying how we will probably be going home in an hour or two!

No, not so much!

The tests showed my waters indeed had broken and so they would be inducing my labor. I was given pitocin and admitted into room 312. It took 3 nurses to get my iv in. My arms were terribly bruised afterwards. I was also STARVING since I hadn't eaten anything substantial all day but I couldn't eat because of the meds. I was eating popsicles, watching the Kardashians and thinking this was a piece of cake. I had planned on enduring the pains as much as I could.

And then it hit me like a ton of bricks. How would I describe the pain? Like period cramps, multiplied by a million. And cramps when you have to poop, multiplied by a million. I definitely got an epidural but I really hated how numb my legs felt. I really can't remember if the epidural hurt or not. I was too focused on my labor pains. I threw up a few times. I hardly slept. I was fully dilated around noon the next day. I pushed for about 2.5 hours and my OBGYN decided my hips were too narrow to get this baby down safely. So with much regret, I had to have a c-section. I remember being wheeled out of the room into surgery and my brother saying to my mom, "She's going to start crying." And I definitely did. I was tired, in a lot of pain, and so frustrated.

Mr. Ho met me in the operating room where I was given more drugs. I was so loopy. I remember feeling a lot of pressure and then all of sudden, I heard a baby crying. And INSTANTLY, Mr. Ho and I looked at each other and we both had tears running down our faces. They took little Olivia to get warmed up while they stitched me up. It was around Olympic time and one of the doctors (not mine) asked mydoctor about curling. I know, WTF. Can you just place my organs back in nicely, not leave anything behind, and stitch me up, please?

I was still very drugged up so it was kind of a blur. But it all happened really fast. I remember holding her finally and she was just so calm and peaceful. Wow, what a moment!

We were in the hospital for 5 days. I wanted to stay as long as insurance would let me because I just felt so unsure of what I was doing. The nurses were absolutely amazing. They were so helpful. When I was crying to one of the nurses about my unsuccessful breastfeeding attempts, I remember her encouraging me and telling me one day I'll be stirring a pot of spaghetti with one hand and breastfeeding with the other! That never happened, but I always think of her when I make spaghetti and holding Olivia in the other arm.

The lactation consultants were super helpful too. I just completely broke down and cried one day and Mr. Ho had no idea what was wrong with me. I can't really put into words how frustrating it is. I thought I was "prepared" for all of this. But as much as I felt intense love for my child, she was also like a stranger. We had never met face-to-face and I had no idea what to do with her. She obviously was dealing with being outside of the comforts of the womb. And here I am thrusting this nipple into her mouth. It all seems so funny now, but man. I was heartbroken. I gave breastfeeing a good try for a month. She was getting SOMETHING because she was gaining weight but it was just not working out for us.

One day, I surrendered myself to the pump. I told breastfeeding to go eff itself and decided to go with the machine. As long as she was getting breastmilk, did it really matter how? So I pumped every 2-3 hours around the clock.

And now here I am, a complete year later. Still pumping but only twice a day as opposed to 8-10. I have a beautiful baby girl, who is thriving and happy. She loves to dance and listen to music. She loves to eat and try new flavors. She loves to manseh, clap, and do her pretty pose. She gives kisses and big smiles morning to night. She has 6 teeth. She loves to cruise. She points to dogs and says "mung mung" (dog in korean). She enjoys staring at the window and telling me about everything outside. She loves to read books.

I have a terrible shoulder from holding her on my left arm all the time. This past weekend, I was laying down and got up wrong and really hurt myself. I yelled and just held my shoulder for a bit and leaned my head on the sofa. Olivia was sitting on the sofa. She started to tear up when she heard me, crawled over, and put her head on my head and gave me little pats on the head. It was the most endearing moment of my life and I'll just never forget that feeling.

Life is not the same. And there are some times I wish I could just have some alone time. I wish I could sleep 12 hours. I wish I could just run out and run errands. I wish I could get drunk and eat shin ramyun at 4 in the morning with no worries for the next day.

But I wouldn't trade it for anything. I curse while getting up in the morning. But the second I pick her up from her crib and she says "umma," my life is perfect.

Happy 1st Birthday to my Olivia.

10 Days Late

No, not what you think. I told myself I'd start weaning from the pump one month before Olivias birthday. And I haven't started. I even had it in my planner: "Feb 1: WEANING!!!!"

I can't bring myself to do it. Why? I feel an enormous amount of guilt. I guess it's that mommy guilt rearing it's ugly head. She does so well on breastmilk. What if cows milk just doesn't do her any good? What if she hates it? Breastmilk provides all these antibodies. Should I just keep going until flu season is over at least?

We got a new dishwasher so washing bottles and pump parts has become a thing of the past. Our awesome Samsung dishwasher sanitizes and it is really just amazing. But weaning would free up so much of my time. Sigh. I know I gotta start soon.

I had a dream last night I had another baby girl. And I've been thinking all day about having another baby. After Olivia was born, I told myself I would NEVER do it again. But I miss that newborn-ness. I feel like I was so delirious from the labor and the c section that I didn't get to really enjoy it. This time, it's an automatic c section so it might be easier? Idk. I would like Olivia to be walking and out of diapers first. Mr. Ho wants a Dragon. Olivia is a special tiger - a white tiger and apparently this upcoming dragon is special too. But the tiger and the dragon won't get along because they will both be so fierce.

I'm getting way ahead of myself.

Olivia can clap on cue now. It's adorable!! I love when she Gives me love. She rubs her face all over mine. Or I love When she takes a break from playing and will crawl over to rest her head on me. She also starts "singing" along when she she's really in the mood.

Excuse the typos. I'm on my phone. Gnite!!

New Year, New Life

Hello 2010. You are 26 days old.

The New Year has been good to me so far. We celebrated by going to dinner at 2941 and having their tasting menu. It really was one of the best meals I've had in my life. Even though I couldn't enjoy it to the fullest since I couldn't have the raw foods or eat the Kobe beef the right way, it was still out of this world delicious. I really love me some truffles - shaved, oil, whatever. We actually finished dinner around 11:15 PM so we came home. We rang in the new year in our comfortable bed with my favorite Wegmans Sparkling Grape Juice. Mr. Ho passed out soon after. Good times!

We also took our one and only trip during this entire pregnancy. Ms. Kang, now the newly minted Mrs. Park got married in New Jersey. The wedding was so beautiful and special. I was a ball of hormones. The tears started as soon as she hit the aisle. And especially when she was dancing with her father. Her day also coincided with my birthday so I did spend my birthday weekend in NYC, eating xiao lum bao (I never remember how to spell that) and Milk Bar ice cream, cookies, and pork buns! Mr. Ho also spoiled me with some amazing gifts from Chanel - you can never go wrong with that.

So, I am 32 weeks now. The countdown has truly begun. Olivia's room is pretty much finished! Dad Ho came to hang up the mirror for us today. I just have to do some major laundry but will wait till the beginning of March to do it so it doesn't collect dust - a la Mom Lim's request. Her furniture is beautiful and everything goes so well with the paint and chandelier. Man, applying the decals to her wall was NO JOKE. Mr. Ho thoroughly impressed me with his patience and attention to detail. I was the one who wanted to half-ass it and ignore the air bubbles. But I guess he really wanted to make his daughter's room as perfect as he could! #1 Daddy already!

Two Saturdays ago, Mr. Ho and I took a Birthing Class, essentially a Lamaze course. It was info-packed but we did do some breathing exercises for contractions. You'll never know how it feels until you experience them for yourself, so I can't imagine what labor will be like. I hate being touched when sick. The instructor was encouraging us to hold hands and look into each other's eyes to focus. It was all fun and games during the exercises but I'm scared I will turn into an evil bitch when the time comes. Hopefully, I won't be too mean. Hopefully, Mr. Ho won't take it personally. In advance, I LOVE YOU, MR. HO! Don't hate me during labor!

I guess no one knocked on wood because I had a brief encounter with constipation and hemmroids. TMI? I don't care. You or your significant other will (most likely) have them too when with child.

This little girl could be making her debut anywhere from 5-10 weeks! Insanity.

Symptom Rundown

I hope everyone had a very merry Christmas! The last year of the decade is winding down. 10 years ago, I was waiting to graduate high school. 10 years later, I'm waiting for my first baby. I can't even believe it. Where did that time go?

Speaking of time, where did this pregnancy go? I am almost 29 weeks, right at the beginning of my THIRD trimester. Already! 7 months and just trimester away from holding my own little baby. I think I have bought everything I possibly can. I just have to go get some shampoo and lotion from Whole Foods. And we are waiting to buy the stroller since she'll be in the car seat for a bit. I'm just waiting on the furniture so I can shampoo the carpets and wash all her clothes to put in her dresser. Oh, I guess I still need a mirror. Damn it.

Sooo... I'd just like to put pregnancy in perspective. Looking back, the first trimester was a definite blur. I just remember hating how everything smelled. Throwing up. Gagging at everything - even while watching Top Chef? And definitely just laying down. Not being able to do anything for long periods of time because it was just exhausting.

Second trimester was fun. All the nausea went away. Food was absolutely DELICIOUS. The energy came back. Watching the belly grow was a lot of fun - wishing it would grow faster! I really don't think I started to show till the end of my 2nd trimester.

Now the third trimester has begun. And now this nervousness has set in. Am I ready to be a mommy? Well, I have no choice now, but you know what I mean. Am I prepared? A million "What If?" questions are flowing through my head. And let's talk about the SYMPTOMS. I hate Hollywood for making me think pregnancy was going to be glorious and glamorous. Let me tell you about what I've gone through and what every pregnant lady has gone through... I feel like mine hasn't been so bad because I'm not constipated or have hemmroids. Well, not yet anyway. EVERYONE KNOCK ON WOOD RIGHT NOW!

Ok, here are just a few symptoms I'm experiencing.

-swollen hands and feet
-sciatica pain in the leg and butt
-feeling of someone kicking you HARD in the vaj
-feeling like your vaj is going to fall out because of said kick in the vaj
-getting up 4-8 times in the night just to pee
-having the "need to pee" feeling with every baby movement, every sneeze, every laugh, every change in position
-can't get comfortable. ever.
-heartburn!
-my eyebrows apparently have gotten lighter, according to my mother.
-also noticed my mascara does not have the same effect on my lashes
-can't take any meds
-uncontrollable tooting :)
-feeling out of breath. even while just laying down and doing nothing
-extra body hair
-must use feet as hands because can't bend over as easily
-short term memory is SHOT
-belly button looks like an old lady's shriveled up mouth
-i swear, extra ear wax
-stuffy nose
-super sensitive gums. bleed like crazy when i floss

That's it for now. I can't think of anything else. And yet, I think I'd do it ALL OVER AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN and AGAIN :) I can't wait for Olivia. I can't wait.

Gotta go. What am I going to do? PEE!
